SHQ (Sexual Health Quarters) is an independent, non-profit organisation. SHQ, formally Family Planning Association of WA (Inc), has evolved as a leading provider of specialist services in sexual and reproductive health. SHQ is a member of the Family Planning Alliance of Australia.

SHQ offers a wide range of professional education and training opportunities in sexual and reproductive health, focusing on building workforce, organisational and community capacity to promote sexual health and respectful relationships. Support and consultancy is available for organisations and professionals delivering sexual and reproductive health programs and services.

Professional education and training offerings vary in length, cost and topics covered. 

Courses are typically offered several times per year or can be arranged specifically. SHQ may also be able to deliver tailored training. A downloadable 2023 calendar - Community Education and Training Courses (Perth) is availbale here

Courses include:

  • Nuts and Bolts of Sexual Health -  an interactive three-day course to develop the core knowledge, attitudes and skills required to provide information and support for young people around respectful relationships and sexual health issues. The course can be completed in full or in separate days. This course has been designed for youth workers and others in the youth sector, including teachers. 

  • Mooditj Leader Training - a four-day, hands on course to build the skills and confidence to run Mooditj groups for young people. Mooditj is a resilience, relationships and sexual health education program designed for young Aboriginal people aged 10-14 years. The Mooditj program has three parts: Mooditj Me, Mooditj Mates, Mooditj More than Mates.

  • STARS - a two day introductory course to help build knowledge and confidence to Start Talking About Relationships and Sexual health with young Aboriginal people.

  • School Protective Education and Sexuality Program - The Disability Team at SHQ offer bespoke, onsite education to people living with disability.The team meet with teachers to tailor the course to meet the needs of the current students.

  • bodies and puberty

  • contraception and pregnancy

  • STIs and safer sex

  • respectful relationships and sexting

  • consent and communication

  • pleasure

  • pornography

  • LGBTIQA+ and diversity in sex, gender and orientation

Location

SHQ is based in Perth. SHQ can provide education and training services to metropolitan, regional and remote areas across Western Australia (cost varies).
