Pamphlet

This strategy will help students to:

  • develop their research skills

  • communicate ideas and information to a particular audience.

Implementation

  1. Students research a particular sexuality and/or relationship topic.

  2. They identify a specific health prevention message that would like to inform a particular audience about.

  3. They create a pamphlet to communicate the particular prevention message, and the ideas and tips to support the message.

Example: Communicating puberty

Students learn about the changes that occur during puberty and discuss the physical, emotional and social changes they will experience.

Students design and create a pamphlet to communicate these changes. The pamphlet can be titled ‘For kids by kids: About puberty and other experiences'.

The pamphlet can also be used to reassure people going through puberty by identifying a number of people you can talk to if you need advice or help. Encourage students to use a number of different design aspects to appeal to the audience of people the same age as them.

Once students have completed their pamphlets, they can form groups to reflect on their work. Students discuss the effectiveness of the pamphlet and the information it communicates.
