Question and answer

This strategy will help students to:

• reflect individually on sexuality and relationships concepts and issues

• address misconceptions

• recognise knowledge growth and areas for further development.

Implementation

Provide students with a number of questions to guide their reflections. Students record their answers.

Example: STIs and condoms

After researching and learning about the use and effectiveness of condoms, students can reflect on the following questions.

• What is the best way to avoid an STI?

• What are some other ways to avoid STIs?

• What have you learnt about using condoms?

• What are the most important facts that people need to know about condoms?

• What messages did you get from this activity about how condoms protect from STIs?

Emphasise the importance of using a condom properly to protect against STIs and pregnancy. Also note that condoms can only help reduce the risk of some STIs. For example, genital warts, herpes, pubic lice and scabies can still be transmitted due to skin-to-skin contact.
